How Chiropractic Can Effectively Address Headaches

Is your head throbbing with pain daily? Or maybe you are feeling intense pressure that feels like it will never end! If you suffer from headaches, you aren’t alone. Did you know that 38% of the population suffer from tension-type headaches over a one-year period? Moreover, 8.3% of people reported they lost workdays due to headaches and 43.6% reported decreased effectiveness at work, home and school due to their headache.

Irritation of the nerves or blood vessels entering your skull is what cause headaches. There are several contributing factors that play into why the onset of a headache may occur. These factors include sleeping habits, stress, nutritional choices and hydration levels (drink water in this Texas heat y’all!).

The Six Major Types of Headaches

There are also dozens of types of headaches, but here are the six most common ones:

  1. Cervicogenic headaches (the structures in your neck are causing the headache)
  2. Tension-Type headaches (constant pressure headaches – your head feels like it is being squeezed)
  3. Migraine headaches (severe headaches that come with nervous system symptoms)
  4. Cluster headaches (one-sided recurring headaches that cause pain behind your eye or temple)
  5. Rebound headaches (pounding headaches from medication or caffeine withdrawal)
  6. Sinus headaches (headaches with pressure and pain around your sinus cavities in your face)

The nerves, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue have all been linked to causing headaches.

Providing Relief Naturally

Having misalignment in your neck and upper back can be a contributing factor to your headaches. Correcting those misalignments restores proper function to your body and relieves the pressure.
